“Hedge Fund Activism”

You will learn about:

  • the emergence of hedge funds as key institutional shareholder activists
  • strategies that hedge fund activists employ and the types of firms they target
  • whether hedge fund activism enhances or destroys shareholder value both in the short and long term
  • changes in target firm profitability and impact on other firm policies subsequent to engagement with hedge fund activists

  1. Hi Prof Alon Brav,

May I please have the link to your website on activism?

    Thank you!

  2. Did you guys already set your clocks back, or am I in the wrong place?

  3. In addition to the qualitative and gross return benefits and/or costs of shareholder activism, I hope Alon will address the additional quantitative costs and management fee structure of carrying out an activism-based strategy.

  4. The topic of your upcoming session is particularly interesting given a story I have been following. Valeant Pharmaceuticals is attempting a hostile takeover of Allergan Pharmaceuticals. An active investor, Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capitol Investment has taken a 9.7% equity share position in Allergan prior to the early Valeant offers that have since become a hostile takeover. Can you comment on the role such an active investor plays in this current attempt by one Pharma to take over another?

  5. I am a 2014 graduate of Fuqua and had Alon for core finance.
