Gavan J. Fitzsimons

Gavan J. Fitzsimons is the R. David Thomas Professor of Marketing and Psychology. His research focuses on understanding the ways in which consumers may be influenced without conscious knowledge or awareness by marketers and marketing researchers, often without any intent on the part of the marketer. His work has been published in numerous academic journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Management Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Psychological Science. His ideas have also been featured in many popular press outlets such as NPR, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Psychology Today, Oprah magazine and Time magazine, amongst many others. In addition to his teaching and research responisbilties at Fuqua, Campbell R. Harvey is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA. Harvey is the Editor of The Journal of Finance – the leading scientific journal in his field and one of the premier journals in the economic profession through 2012. Harvey is a Founding Director of the Duke-CFO Survey. This widely watched survey polls over 1,000 CFOs worldwide. Harvey is a content pioneer on the Internet. In 2001, he successfully conducted the first live webcast of his Global Asset Allocation and Stock Selection course. E. Allan Lind

Until recently, Allan Lind co-directed Duke’s Center on Leadership and Ethics; he formerly was the Director of the Center for Excellence in Business Education. Professor Lind’s teaching interests center on leadership and global management issues. He teaches MBA courses on leadership, management, culture, and ethics in a number of Fuqua’s MBA programs, and he teaches executive education classes on leadership, teams and virtual teams, global culture and business, and change and innovation. Professor Lind has published more than 100 research papers in major scholarly journals around the world. Professor Marx’s research focuses on the problem of anti-competitive behavior by individuals and firms, including collusion and anti-competitive contract provisions. This research improves our ability to detect collusion, teaches us how auctions and other markets can be made less susceptible to collusion, and guides antitrust authorities in understanding what behavior should be viewed as anti-competitive. Her research on auctions has been used in modifying the design of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s spectrum license auctions to make those auctions more robust to collusion. Peter Ubel is a physician and behavioral scientist whose research and writing explores the quirks in human nature that influence our lives. As a Professor of Marketing and Public Policy at Fuqua, Ubel examines controversial issues about the role of values and preferences in health care decision making, from at the bedside to shaping government policy.
