What is the application process for the Workshop?

Prospective students interested in attending must complete a brief online questionnaire, which includes one short essay and requires a resume submission. Questionnaires must be submitted by October 14, 2019.

When will I be notified of my status for the Workshop?

Workshop decisions will be sent via email on or before October 21, 2019.

Who is eligible to attend the Workshop?

The goal of the Workshop is to increase the number of students from underrepresented backgrounds in business school. At Fuqua and in the field of business, underrepresented minorities are recognized as African American, Hispanic American, and Native American. As an inclusive institution, the workshop is open to all MBA prospective students regardless of their background.

If I attended The Duke MBA Workshop in a previous year, can I attend again this year?

No. Since space is limited, we want to give first priority to those students who have not yet attended this event.

Will my selection to participate in the Workshop be an indication of how competitive I will be in the admissions process?

The selection process for the Workshop is separate from the selection process for admission to business school. Your Workshop status is not an indication of how you will fair in the admissions process. We would like to invite everyone that expresses an interest in attending, but because Duke covers the majority of your expenses for the weekend, we are limited to inviting only 80 prospective students. Based on the information you submit, we will select those individuals who we believe can benefit most from the Workshop at this time.

Can I have my admissions interview conducted during the Workshop?

Yes. All prospective students who are invited to attend the Workshop will have the opportunity to complete their interview for admission on Saturday, November 18. Instructions for scheduling your interview will be provided once you are invited to the Workshop.

If I have already submitted my admissions application, is there a benefit of me attending?

Yes. While some of the information presented during the Workshop will pertain to the admissions process, the programming during this weekend will cover many areas of the business school experience.  You will have an opportunity to attend a class, tour the facilities at Duke and Fuqua, and network with alumni, current students and staff, and you’ll gain valuable information about post-MBA careers and financing your degree.

Will I have an opportunity to interact with the entire Duke community and not just the minority community during the Workshop?

Yes. Our entire Fuqua community has a longstanding commitment to diversity. Our agenda for the weekend will include activities that will give you exposure to the greater Fuqua community.

What if I am applying for business school next year, can I still attend this year?

Yes. Students who are applying for business school next year are still eligible to apply for the Workshop.

Will Duke cover any of the expenses for this event?

Yes. All expenses incurred by participants (except travel to and from Durham, incidentals such as personal phone calls, and room service) will be paid by Duke University.
